Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jahan Dotson left a lot to be desired last year for the Eagles, but it might have been simply that the team didn't use him to his full potential.
Before the Eagles' training camp practice on Wednesday, offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo responded to a question on what he has seen in Dotson so far. Patullo praised the wide receiver for his route running and even shared something they discovered about him that they could use in the offense.
"He's a really good route runner. That's the one thing when you on the tape on or you watch him in person, his route running ability is really dynamic. I think his maturity of just being around the other guys, you can start to feel him in different ways in the offense. I think what he's shown too is you can move him around. I don't know if we necessarily knew that when we first got him, but now he's in a spot where we can put him anywhere and we feel confident. So I think his game has grown tremendously in that standpoint."

Last season was a forgettable one for Dotson, who only had 19 receptions for 216 yards in the regular season after being traded for him from the Washington Commanders right before the 2024 campaign began. That led to Eagles general manager Howie Roseman deciding not to exercise his fifth-year option on his rookie deal, given uncertainty about how he would perform this season.
Eagles fans got a small sample size in the team's 34-27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 of the preseason last week. With one drive of work, Dotson caught two passes for 27 yards, with both completions being over 10+ yards. Everyone could agree on Patullo's assessment of Dotson's route running, as he was able to run his way into getting open with how precise he was.
Patullo showed his hand a bit as the Eagles could be using Dotson in a much different way in 2025. It sounds like they want to move him around in the offense, which could mean he might be seeing himself on the outside and in the slot at receiver.
Dotson is talented enough to be placed in various positions on offense, which can throw off the defense. His speed and attention to detail would help bring the creativity out of Patullo in his play-calling
The Eagles might have a secret weapon on Dotson.
