Kliff Kingsbury Joining Sean McVay & Rams’ Coaching Staff

As is usually the case every offseason, the Los Angeles Rams will need to make some changes to their coaching staff after Mike LaFleur landed the head coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals.

Similar to players, Sean McVay has an eye for finding coaching talent, which has led to a number of his assistants getting promotions elsewhere.

But also because of that, coaches are always eager to join McVay’s staff on the Rams and it appears the next one is Kliff Kingsbury, per Adam Schefter and Peter Schrager of ESPN:

Kingsbury is a former head coach of the Cardinals himself but most recently was the offensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders the last two seasons. He helped guide them to the NFC Championship Game in Jayden Daniels’ rookie year, but they took a major step back in 2025 due to injuries and decided to part ways this offseason.

While Kingsbury was in the mix for some head coaching and offensive coordinator gigs, joining his good friend McVay on the Rams’ staff is an excellent career move. If the Rams have a successful season, and there’s no reason to believe they won’t, he could be in the head coaching cycle once again a year from now.

Sean McVay discusses Rams’ offensive coordinator opening

It remains to be seen what role Kingsbury will have with the Rams, although they obviously have an opening at offensive coordinator with LaFleur’s departure.

Nate Scheelhaase would be another good candidate for that role, and McVay recently discussed his search for LaFleur’s replacement.

“I did think that this was something that could occur, so we’ve got great candidates in-house,” McVay said. “Based on the rules and I think what is the appropriate thing, are you going to do an extensive search to really just dive into what’s going to be the best way to bring in new people that help us continue to build and grow towards where we want to go?”

Between McVay, Kingsbury and Scheelhaase, the Rams will have one of the best offensive staffs in the league, regardless of who holds what title.
