Kyler Murray had two options out of college: play in the NFL or compete in Major League Baseball. The 23-year-old decided to play football, was the first-overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and the rest is history.
However, Murray could've also gone on to have a successful baseball career. He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics ninth overall in 2018, and the second-year Arizona Cardinals quarterback admitted on "Tiki and Tierney" that he wishes he could still play more than one sport competitively, per Pro Football Talk.
“I played football, baseball, basketball growing up my whole life. I miss basketball — I didn’t get to play as much as I may have wanted to. But I miss baseball, for sure, just being in the box, being out there with the guys competing,” Murray said. “But I know I’m where supposed to be at. If I had chosen baseball, I’d be missing football a lot more. For me, I wish I could do both. I definitely feel like I could. I never say never, but as of right now, I’m having fun doing what I love.”
While Murray's baseball days are over, there's always the possibility that he one day returns to the diamond. Tim Tebow, who was drafted by the Denver Broncos and played three seasons in the NFL, now plays baseball in the New York Mets minor league system.
Similarly, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has played minor-league ball in the past and even attended spring training for the New York Yankees in 2019.
