The Las Vegas Raiders’ revamping of their roster continues as they try to stand atop a competitive division that has the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers in it. One of the areas they’re looking to improve the team is through their pass offense.
They will have to do a lot of overhauling as they have to ship off their disgruntled star wideout and look for a new quarterback after Jimmy Garoppolo didn’t work out in Sin City. However, they might be taking the right steps as they are poised to land a talented offensive mind to take over as a position coach.
According to Andrew Gould of The Spun. Rich Scangarello has become the runaway favorite to bag the quarterbacks coach within the Las Vegas Raiders coaching staff after visiting their facility last week.
Scangarello has been in and around the NFL as one of its more experienced offensive minds. The Raiders gave him his first NFL job in 2009 and has been in and around the league ever since. He even worked with Garoppolo during his time with the San Francisco 49ers.
While it may seem like Scangarello’s potential hiring is going to help Jimmy G be more comfortable at Allegiant Stadium, circumstances may prevent a reunion from even happening:
The NFL suspended Garoppolo two games for violating its performance-enhancing substances policy, placing his future in more doubt following a tumultuous first season in Las Vegas. Per The Athletic’s Vic Tafur and Dianna Russini, the Raiders plan to cut him next month because the suspension nullifies his $11.25 fully guaranteed salary and matching roster bonus due on March 17.
Even if the Las Vegas Raiders decide to part ways with Garoppolo, their next QB will benefit from the experience Scangarello will bring to the table. If the team manages to land the perfect signal caller this offseason, they will have a chance to sneak into the playoffs next season.
