Adam Peters revamped the offensive line for the Washington Commanders this offseason, but getting back a vital piece of the interior can really maximize it's potential.

The team made a roster move before the first practice at training camp which signals a positive update on RG Sam Cosmi, who suffered an ACL tear against the Detroit Lions in the playoffs.

Everything is on the table for Cosmi

The Commanders moved Cosmi to the Active/PUP list Wednesday morning, which signals that he's ahead of schedule and can return back to playing sooner than expected if things continue to progress well.

Placing him on the Active/PUP and not the Reserve/PUP means that he still has a legit chance to play Week 1, which would be beyond impressive with his injury timeline. Commanders HC Dan Quinn also confirmed this today in a media presser before practice.

"I think it's on the table for sure [playing week one], but we won't put that you know, there. . .but it gives you the chance for him to go be able to do that." Quinn told the media.

That's very encouraging news for a player that could've easily missed a majority of the season. Going to the Reserve/PUP and missing time was definitely a real possibility for Cosmi.

Cosmi needs to continue checking off the boxes

Quinn has been very impressed with the work Cosmi put in to rehab his knee injury, but there's still more progress to be made.

"He's hitting all the markers" Quinn added. "I think we'll have a better answer on that [when he can play], as we get closer to, you know, the end of the preseason. But I'm very encouraged with the work he's put in."

There's no doubt the team will take it's time in making sure Cosmi comes back at a healthy pace and not rush him onto the field. The staff has checkpoints for his recovery and he's making all the progress so far, bit there's more work to do.

In the meantime, others will have opportunities to step up and compete at training camp to step in if needed. Brandon Coleman, Andrew Wylie, and Nick Allegretti are all viable options to start at right guard until Cosmi takes the field again.

Being healthy is the biggest factor in a team's success for the season, and so far to start off training camp there's nothing but positive news with Cosmi's injury. Especially when considering a possible Week 1 appearance is still on the table.
