Latest trade proposal makes a recent move permanent for the Bears while adding some help fans have been begging for on defense

We are in the heart of trade season with the November 4th trade deadline rapidly approaching and the Chicago Bears are finding themselves in an interesting position following a third consecutive win.

Year 1 of the Ben Johnson era was originally about assessing the current roster of players, identifying which players will be long-term building blocks, what positions are needed, and overall building a winning-mentality.

After a 3-2 start to the season, a lot of those areas are becoming clear and Johnson noted earlier in the week that he's excited to see how far the coaches can "push this thing" in 2025, thus sparking even more trade speculation.

The main position in need of some juice is at defensive end, with two highly-paid starters struggling to make a consistent impact. But, trading away future picks seems counterintuitive to the roadmap being put in place by Johnson and the front office. But, not every trade needs to involve draft picks.

Bill Barnwell's proposal has Bears sending LT Braxton Jones to Raiders for DE Tyree Wilson

On Thursday morning, ESPN's Bill Barnwell floated 13 trade proposals ahead of the deadline and his proposal for the Bears actually makes a lot of sense. Barnwell had Chicago sending left tackle Braxton Jones to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for former first-round defensive end Tyree Wilson. So, let's break it down some more.

After being replaced by Theo Benedet as the team's starting left tackle protecting quarterback Caleb Williams' blindside, Jones has turned into an expendable player. It's clear the coaches no longer trust him enough to start and play at a consistent level and have depth options with second-round pick Ozzy Trapilo as the swing tackle and second-year Kiran Amegadjie eligible to return after Week 7.

For Jones, this would be a great opportunity to get back on the field. The Raiders are without starting left tackle Kolton Miller and in need of a rental tackle. This would give Jones a few more weeks as a starter before hitting free agency after the season.

As for Wilson, the former seventh overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft hasn't lived up to his potential in Las Vegas. Wilson has started just one game in 2025 and is playing 41.6 percent of the defensive snaps with 2.0 sacks and 11 total pressures.

The Bears current sack leader is defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr., who just recorded 1.5 sacks in Week 6. Only Dexter and Montez Sweat have double digit pressures on the season, so Wilson certainly could bring something to the room in Chicago and give the team a fourth edge rusher to have under contract in 2026.

The only caveat to making a trade for an edge rusher is the expected return of second-year defensive end Austin Booker. Chicago opened the 21-day practice window for Booker to return from the injured reserve last week and it's likely he makes his 2025 debut in Week 7.

The Bears believe he can bring some juice to the pass rush unit and likely want to see the young player in action before considering any move.

Booker's hopeful return on Sunday would give Chicago three games to see what kind of pass rush improvements are made with him back on the field. If it's a marginal boost, this kind of trade would make a lot of sense for all parties involved.
