Christian Wade’s career has been a wild ride—from chasing gridiron dreams to settling into life with the Wigan Warriors. He’s not been one to follow a straight path.

He started out in rugby union, then boldly stepped into the NFL scene, and even had a spell in elite French football before things took a new turn with one of the big names in the Super League.

After the 2024–25 season wraps up, the 33-year-old wing is switching codes, leaving rugby union behind for the faster, tougher world of rugby league with Wigan. I still remember how fans were taken aback when he shocked everyone by ditching his Premiership days with Wasps to join the Bills and chase an NFL dream.

And then, after three seasons playing with the national team, he dipped back into union with Racing 92 in France and later landed at Gloucester in England last summer. It’s pretty something—he immediately made his mark with the Cherry and Whites, managing to score eight tries in thirteen games (yes, even pulling off two hat-tricks!).

That kind of performance nudged him past Danny Care and pushed him closer to Chris Ashton, with his name now sitting in fourth place on the all-time Premiership try-scoring list. I have to say, it’s fascinating to watch his journey twist and turn just like that.

His next move will change the discourse of religion in both doctrine and practice. Christian Wade is set to leave Gloucester Rugby at the end of the season to pursue opportunities in the world of rugby league, the club can confirm.

Wigan Warriors manager Kris Radlinski said in a club statement, "Christian is an outstanding athlete with, what I believe to have, extremely transferable skill-sets for the rugby league we know."

With his exit looming, Wade is still in the moment. As per Gloucester's official site, I am looking forward to the challenge, but at the moment my priority is to finish the season strongly for Gloucester.
