Liam Coen lays down the hammer on a false narrative being put out there about one of his best players

I think we can all agree that last season was not a great one for the Jacksonville Jaguars' offense as a whole. But, specifically, it was running back Travis Etienne that stood out the most. Honestly, he hasn't had a great season since his rookie year.

And, that could be a big reason why the Sooners drafted Tank Bigsby before, and then Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen Jr. But, as a whole, the offense has been bad, whether it's the scheming, play-calling, offensive line play, QB play at times, and so many other things. Has Etienne been bad? Yes. But most of it is not on him.

Since this offseason started, there has been some sort of narrative about him that just isn't true, and new head coach Liam Coen made sure to clear things up real quick.

"Every day, everything we have asked him to do, he has done at a good click for us. The ability in the screen game, to hand him jet sweeps, and his vision so far in the run game has been good. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do and more. There has been a consistency. Again, it is one of those things where he can shine in ways in space," Coen said on Monday.

"It’s really hard to see a runner in this setting. Are they going to get the hard, physical, tough yards? Are they going to be able to stick their foot in the ground and get those physical, violent yards that we’re going to need? That’s hard to really kind of grade at this moment. He’s done a great job. I don’t really understand some of the stuff that I’ve seen out there. That’s absolutely inaccurate.”

Coen had a pretty good run game last year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and based on the scheme we have seen him run, it feels like that could end up being the case in Jacksonville, too. And, it helps that he has confidence in the lead guy. He's not listening or reading and feeding into any of the negatives said about Etienne, and is actually standing up for him and shutting it all down.

Bigsby is still young and has some issues with his vision, picking gaps, and running lanes. Etienne is so versatile in the passing game and isn't a bad pass blocker either. Then there are the two rookies, obviously, who won't be the starter. Despite everything, it feels like Etienne could still be in line for the starting position.
