Lions Announce Personnel Staff Moves
USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect

The Lions recently announced a series of new hires and promotions in their player personnel department, headlined by Dwayne Joseph‘s move from director of scouting to vice president of player personnel.

Joseph, 54, is a former Bears cornerback who won Super Bowl LII before beginning his front office career in Chicago in 1998 as their coordinator of player programs. He was promoted to director of player development in 2001 before moving to Miami as a regional scout in 2004. He remained in that post until 2011 (with a one-year stint as assistant director of pro personnel in 2007) before returning to the Bears in 2012, first as assistant director of college scouting before holding the same title in the pro personnel department.

Joseph was then hired by the Eagles as their director of pro personnel in 2015, a valuable apprenticeship given general manager Howie Roseman‘s strong reputation around the league. In 2019, he took on the Raiders’ director of pro scouting position, his last stop before coming to Detroit in 2024 as their director of scouting.

The Lions also promoted Joe Kelleher from assistant director to director of pro scouting for his 15th season with the team. He previously served in a variety of scouting roles, including college scouting coordinator from 2013 to 2017. Kelleher’s position was previously occupied by Rob Lohman, who has been promoted to vice president of roster operations/evaluations after almost two decades in Detroit in a variety of scouting roles.

Other scouting department promotions include Mark Olson (previously regional scout, now assistant director of college scouting); Ademi Smith (prev. BLESTO scout, now area scout); Joseph Harvey (prev. auxiliary scout, now BLESTO scout); and Austin White (prev. personnel assistant, now auxiliary scout). Also, Justin DeLeon has been hired as a Nunn-Wooten scouting fellow, and former Lions offensive tackle Jamarco Jones has returned to the team in a similar role.

The Lions are also beefing up their football informations department. Paul Bargerstock has been promoted from manager to director with Paul Ibrahim taking on his previous title. Levi Wilson has also been promoted to senior director of football technology.
