Lions' biggest offseason win after mass exodus is painfully obvious

Training camp can't get here soon enough.

It's been a long, extremely-forgettable offseason in Detroit. If any team in NFL history has ever lost so many good players and coaches in one three-month stretch, I certainly can't remember it. (I'm not being dramatic, you're being dramatic.) After a few years spent as the undisputed NFC North favorite, a division title doesn't feel quite as certain this year.

This is all just to say: Lions fans need to take the wins where they can get them. And on Monday, that means at CBS Sports, who did everyone (but especially Detroit) a solid and decided to actually write something positive about every single NFL team's offseason. They even, against all odds, found something good to say about the Lions.

CBS Sports loved the Lions' decision to sign DJ Reed this offseason

"You could make an argument for the promotion of Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator; the former NFL linebacker is well regarded as he takes over for the departed Aaron Glenn. But that's partially because he's got a proven cover man in Reed, whose arrival from the New York Jets should offset Carlton Davis' exit, easing the burdens of youngsters like Terrion Arnold."

Sure, whatever. I'll take it. Reed's been pretty consistent over the last seven years he's been in the NFL, starting 70 of the 101 games he's appeared in. And for a team that's struggled mightily with injuries in recent years, a guy who's appeared in at least 14 games in six of his seven seasons is probably all Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell needed to see. And for the PFF fanatics among you – his PFF grades have been remarkably consistent throughout his stops in San Francisco/Seattle/New York.

It's not a ton to go on, but it's not like the Lions gave us a ton to work with this offseason. Maybe we should just really celebrate the Jaire Alexander news instead.
