Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions are in action on Thursday for a Thanksgiving rivalry matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Goff, who entered the game with 244-of-352 completed passes (69.3%) for 2,769 yards and 23 touchdowns so far this season, is looking to lead Detroit to back-to-back wins. The Lions are coming off a hard-fought 34-27 overtime win over the New York Giants on Sunday and are hoping to keep the momentum going in their short week.

The Packers, however, are also on a high. They’ve won two in a row, including Sunday’s 23-6 win over NFC North division rivals, the Minnesota Vikings.

Goff is currently in his fifth season in Detroit. In 2024, he signed a four-year, $212 million contract extension with the Lions that will keep him with the team through 2027, with a player option for 2028.

Goff has been a driving force for Detroit this year. The Lions entered Thursday’s matchup 7-4, and there’s no denying that the four-time Pro Bowl quarterback has been integral to the team’s success this season. A testament to this fact is how Goff made history yet again on Thursday.

The Lions took to social media during the game to announce the 31-year-old’s latest historic milestone.

“. @Lions QB @JaredGoff16 has thrown for 2+ TD passes in each of his 5 starts on Thanksgiving Day.

“He now has 80-career games with 2+ TD passes, becoming only the 5th player in @NFL history to have 80 games with 2+ passing TDs through 10-career seasons,” the team posted on X.

As of writing, Goff already has 15-of-19 completed passes against Green Bay for 181 yards and two touchdowns. He's also registered one carry for 24 rushing yards. The Lions are still down, though, 31-21, with nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

The result of Thursday’s NFC North battle will have a significant impact on both teams’ playoff hopes. Entering the contest, the 7-3 Packers had a 78% chance of securing a postseason berth. The Lions, on the other hand, had 75% odds. A playoff spot is not yet guaranteed for either team, and a win on Thanksgiving will be a big step in the right direction. A loss, however, will set them back significantly with five weeks remaining in the regular season.
