Al-Quadin Muhammad has been quietly piecing together an impressive start to his 2025 season with the Detroit Lions. He ranked 6th in pass rush win rate through two weeks of action, and he certainly made those numbers even better in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens.
With 2.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, and four total tackles, Muhammad made his mark on a huge win for the Lions in a road game against a potential Super Bowl matchup. With the loss of Marcus Davenport for a few weeks after he landed on the IR with a pec injury, Muhammad was the next man up.
He took full advantage of the opportunity, and has suddenly thrust himself into the conversation for becoming the full time starting DE next to Aidan Hutchinson for the remainder of this season. With Davenport having not impressed much prior to his injury, Muhammad stands out tenfold. He is quickly becoming one of Detroit's better defenders, and that's excellent news for the Lions front office.
For Davenport, perhaps not so much.
Muhammad got one of the game balls after the Lions victory, with Brad Holmes looking on in the locker room. He expressed gratitude to the Lions for giving him an opportunity this season, as he was "on the couch" around this time last year.
Holmes had to have been thrilled to see this performance from Muhammad especially, as Detroit was facing some smoke after Davenport was put on the IR regarding their lack of moves to add to their pass rush this offseason.
"We're good" remains the rallying call amongst fans who might be upset that Detroit didn't make a big swing move for an additional defender on the D-line to put next to Hutchinson, as that was what Dan Campbell said of the team's decision not to bring back Za'Darius Smith. Before this game, that critique had some gas.
After this game, though? It's clear that the Lions might just be operating on a whole other level than the rest of us watching from the sideline. Muhammad looks like the real deal, and that's a big plus for himself, Hutchinson, and the rest of Detroit's defense. It didn't matter that Jackson was picking the Lions' secondary apart when he was getting sacked for a 7th time on the night.
The Lions, as it turns out, do seem "good" on decimating their picks, cap space, and team chemistry for an additional pass rusher.
