The Detroit Lions faced a familiar face this past Sunday in Ben Johnson. Now the head coach of the Chicago Bears, Johnson was a key part of the Lions’ success over the past few seasons as their offensive coordinator.

Johnson worked daily with Jared Goff and played a major role in helping the quarterback revive his career after the Los Angeles Rams dealt him away in 2021. Goff delivered on Sunday, completing 23-of-28 passes for 334 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Lions went on to roll past the Bears 52–21 to pick up their first win of the young 2025 NFL season.

On Wednesday, the NFL recognized Goff as the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

The league also announced San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner as NFC Defensive Player of the Week and Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey as NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

After the announcement, the Lions reacted to it on social media with a brief statement.

"Nice job, Jared Goff!" they posted.

This marks Goff’s fourth NFC Offensive Player of the Week honor in a Lions uniform, tying him with Calvin Johnson for second all-time in franchise history.

Goff is in his 10th NFL season after being drafted No. 1 overall by the Rams in 2016. The 30-year-old played his college football at the University of California, Berkeley, and has been selected to four Pro Bowls during his career.

He and the Lions will look to improve to 2-1 this season when they travel to Baltimore to face the Ravens. Kick off on Monday is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.
