With Madden teasing the release of its latest iteration of the classic video game, they've begun to slowly release the grades for each NFL team headed into the 2025 season. For the Detroit Lions, fans were expecting some pretty high marks for a team that is still considered a Super Bowl contender despite a few key departures this offseason.
Madden didn't disappoint in that regard. The Lions were given five players with grades of 90 or higher, with 12 players earning a respectable 84 or higher grade from the video game maker. Amon-Ra St. Brown earned the highest marks for Detroit overall with a 96 grade.
Rookies were given grades prior to the full reveal, with the top rookie graded for the Lions being Tyleik Williams with a grade of 77. Detroit has cleaned up well in this year's grades, with no real complaints here. Let's compare their grades to the rest of the NFC North's stars.
The top rated Lions players are as follows:
Amon-Ra St. Brown: 96
Penei Sewell: 96
Jahmyr Gibbs: 95
Aidan Hutchinson: 93
Kerby Joseph: 90
Brian Branch: 89
Jared Goff: 87
Taylor Decker: 87
Sam LaPorta: 86
DJ Reader: 85
David Montgomery: 84
Jack Campbell: 84
Justin Jefferson tops the entire division with an elite 99 overall rating, joining a club that features Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Lane Johnson, and Myles Garrett, to name a few. St. Brown joins Jefferson as an "X Factor" player on the list, along with Aidan Hutchinson, and Xavier McKinney of the Green Bay Packers.
Amongst the quarterbacks in the division, Jared Goff tops Caleb Williams, Jordan Love, and JJ McCarthy with his 87 rating. Williams is rated as a 75, Love as an 83, and McCarthy as a 73. You have to actually click over to the next page to reach McCarthy's profile.
Perhaps the only surprising grade amongst the Lions' is that of Montgomery, who got an 84 from Madden. Josh Jacobs, Green Bay's running back, tops him with a grade of 90. But, Gibbs is the NFC North's top grade running back overall with a grade of 95.
The Lions get a chance to raise Montgomery's profile against his top competition in Jacobs in Week 1 against the Packers, and behind an offense ran by John Morton which seems intent on running both Montgomery and Gibbs out for plays for maximum yardage.
