Lions urged to trade young defensive playmaker (and it kind of makes sense)

Believe it or not, there are only so many things to talk about with the NFL. At a certain point – usually right around now – people start taking big ol' leaps in logic. That's what happens when things around the league get slow.

On the other hand, the dip in notable storylines gives us all an opportunity to get real ... creative? ... about what we want to talk about. For instance, we could go team-by-team and pick out one random person that they should – or, at least, could – trade before the season starts. I'm not going to do that, but that's only because Bleacher Report already did! (That's not the only reason why, but you get it.)

The name that B/R ultimately landed on isn't as surprising as it is debatable. It's almost like they planned it that way!

Bleacher Report thinks Amik Robertson could be on the way out of Detroit this year

"It’s Super Bowl or bust for the Detroit Lions in 2025, and teams with those sorts of aspirations generally don’t send veterans packing ... The 26-year-old Robinson broke his arm in the playoffs last year, but that injury shouldn’t affect his status for 2025. He was a capable player in coverage, posting a passer rating against of under 100 for the third year in a row.

Versatile young cornerbacks are coveted commodities, and with Robertson heading into a contract year and unlikely to be part of Detroit’s long-term plans, now could be the time to get some compensation for the sixth-year pro."

First thing's first: there probably aren't any major trades on the horizon in Detroit, so if you're a big Amik Robertson fan, you probably don't need to sweat this too much. Like the article mentions, he figures to be a major part of the defense this year. We can cross the 2026 bridge when we get there.

Ultimately, I don't think that moving on from established vets who are still a ways away from 30 – especially in the secondary – makes a ton of sense, though I don't run an NFL team. But it's fun* to think about, at least!

*Not fun. Extremely unfun.
