Amon-Ra St. Brown managed to get a hat trick in his last game for the Detroit Lions, as the team trounced the Chicago Bears at home in Week 2. His three scores were a huge lift in a highly emotional contest between former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and the rest of the Lions offense that stood behind after his departure.
St. Brown is, firmly, the Lions' WR1. He's Jared Goff's most reliable receiver, and one of the teams' biggest voices on and off the field. And, if he can manage to snag a touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3, he'll get even closer to becoming an all-time legendary Lions player.
St. Brown currently sits at 36 career receiving touchdowns since coming into the league back in 2021 as a fourth round pick by Detroit. That's good enough to tie him Marvin Jones for third most all time receiving touchdowns by a Lions player in the franchises history. If he reaches 37 during Monday Night Football, it places him firmly in third place all time amongst Lions receivers.
St. Brown would need quite the illustrious career with Detroit in order to reach the heights set by Calvin Johnson, the team's all-time receiving touchdown leader with 83 total scores over nine seasons. St. Brown is in his fifth year with the Lions, and he's averaged about 11 touchdowns over his last two seasons leading into this one.
If he maintains that pace, he should have 44 total career scores by the end of the year, and could beat out Johnson's franchise record in with about four more full seasons under his belt - assuming he stays just as productive by the time he's touching 30 years old with Detroit.
The Lions will keep at for St. Brown as their biggest weapon on offense, so it's hard to imagine a world where he doesn't reach these heights in his time with the team. It's also hard to imagine St. Brown with any other franchise other than with the Lions, so it's exciting to think that he could not only topple Johnson's record, but set one that's difficult to ever touch for other Detroit receivers entering the league.
He's going to have some stiff coverage on him against the Ravens in Week 3. The safety duo of Kyle Hamilton and Malaki Starks is sure to give him some issues, but if he can get enough separation in the secondary, he'll be tough to bring down and to stop from getting that 37th career score.
