Mark Andrews reportedly tests positive for COVID-19 as Ravens' outbreak spreads

The Baltimore Ravens will be without Pro Bowl tight end Mark Andrews on Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Then again, John Harbaugh's side is going to be without a lot of players.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Andrews, who has Type 1 diabetes, has tested positive for the coronavirus.

People who have diabetes are at a higher risk to contract the coronavirus and have complications from it. According to a Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology study in England, the risk of dying of COVID-19 is almost three times higher for people with Type 1 diabetes and almost twice as high for Type 2 compared to those without diabetes.

Andrews is one of two known players in the NFL with Type 1 diabetes. Despite the higher risk for complications, the 24-year-old admitted in August that he never considered opting out of the 2020 season.

The Ravens now have placed 22 players on the reserve/COVID list, including quarterback Lamar Jackson, running backs J.K. Dobbins and Mark Ingram, defensive lineman Calais Campbell and outside linebacker Matthew Judon.

ESPN reported on Sunday morning that at least 11 players and 10 staff members within the Ravens organization have tested positive for COVID-19.
