Former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports color commentator Mark Sanchez has had a rough few months to say the least. But as his legal situation around his near-fatal stabbing incident continues, things are primed to get even worse for him.

According to the Daily Mail via Awful Announcing, attorneys for the plaintiff in the civil suit against Sanchez have alleged that Sanchez was under the influence of several dangerous substances at the time of the confrontation. The substances mentioned by name are cocaine, marijuana, fentanyl and alcohol.

"Plaintiff has cause to believe that one or more of these substances may have been consumed in one of Huse’s establishments, which caused or contributed to Sanchez’s impairment and his subsequent negligent and/or knowing conduct,” the filing states.

That being said, Sanchez's own legal team is vehemently fighting back against these allegations.

“These are allegations in a civil filing, nothing more, and they should be treated accordingly. Allegations are not evidence. The truth will be determined by facts and evidence presented at trial, and we look forward to presenting them at the appropriate time,” Sanchez’s team told the Daily Mail.

The Incident

In the early morning hours of October 4, 2025, Sanchez was involved in a violent altercation in downtown Indianapolis that left him hospitalized with multiple stab wounds. According to police and court records, Sanchez — who was in the city to work as a Fox Sports game analyst — got into a dispute with a 69-year-old truck driver outside a hotel over a parking/loading-dock situation. Surveillance footage and affidavits allege Sanchez, reportedly smelling of alcohol, accosted the driver, entered the man’s truck without permission, and later physically shoved him, prompting the driver to defend himself with pepper spray and, ultimately, a knife. Sanchez was stabbed in the upper torso during the exchange and taken to a local hospital for treatment, later being arrested by Indianapolis police on scene as part of the ongoing investigation.

In the aftermath, criminal charges were filed against Sanchez. He was initially booked on misdemeanor counts including battery resulting in injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, and prosecutors later upgraded one count to a Level 5 felony for battery resulting in serious bodily injury, which carries potential prison time if convicted. Sanchez was released from custody about a week after the incident and has been in the process of recovering from his injuries; court proceedings and additional legal action — including a civil lawsuit filed by the truck driver seeking damages — are ongoing.
