Mason Rudolph is currently the number one quarterback on the Pittsburgh Steelers depth chart.
How long that remains the case is yet to be seen, as the minute Aaron Rodgers signs, he will assume the starting role.
But Mason Rudolph knows that may be the case, and he is prepared for it...
“This business hardens you, and I have been through that before,” Rudolph told the Kaboly and Mack podcast regarding his role with the Steelers. “I thought I had a shot in 2022, then all of a sudden they brought in Mitch and Kenny. I’ve been through that before, and you have to keep working and stay the course...
"...Whoever they bring in and whoever it is will determine … I learned a long time ago that the financial compensation will tell you what’s going to go down in terms of the depth chart. I get it. All I can do is keep having a good spring … and make the most of every rep. That’s what I’ve done my whole career. I am confident that I will be able to play well and win games when my name is called.”
When OTAs start next week, assuming Aaron Rodgers hasn't signed, Rudolph will be the one throwing the ball to DK Metcalf and giving handoffs to Kaleb Johnson and Jaylen Warren.
He will be the one to signal the play calls and get the group together. And sure, it's just OTAs, and Rodgers could walk in there the day before training camp and potentially win the starting role, but given Rudolph's experience with the team and the fact that he could have a two-month head start on Rodgers, there is world where he is the Steelers' starter in 2025.
Of course, if Rodgers doesn't join, then Rudolph will surely be the team's starting quarterback, something the team has confidence in given the way things ended in 2023 when he led the team back from the dead.
Either way, Rudolph is ready for whatever comes his way.
