Nobody knows if the Las Vegas Raiders will trade superstar edge defender Maxx Crosby, but if they do, it probably won’t be any time soon. A fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Eastern Michigan product immediately outplayed his draft capital and established himself as one of the league’s better edge defenders. Despite playing on a weak Raiders team, the seven-year veteran finished the 2025 campaign with 10 sacks, 73 tackles, 28 tackles-for-loss, and 20 quarterback hits in 15 games.
Now set to endure yet another rebuild, the Raiders could trade Maxx Crosby as he enters his age-29 season. Crosby has previously voiced his displeasure with the organization, and the Raiders aren’t one pass-rusher away from turning it around. They could probably use the picks more than the player himself, but NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport doesn’t expect a trade to happen any time soon.
In a recent article, the NFL insider noted that the edge defender underwent a meniscus repair – not a trim – which likely means a multi-month recovery timeline. Rapoport notes that the injury “likely means he won’t be medically cleared before free agency officially begins on March 11 at the start of the new league year,” and adds “if Crosby is traded, it may be much later, perhaps at the 2026 NFL Draft or prior to the season.”
Reading between the lines, this report makes a Maxx Crosby trade seem very unlikely. The Raiders are embracing a rebuild and could probably receive two first-round picks for the talented pass rusher, but they’d want at least one pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. First-year head coach Klint Kubiak will want players who can help him win right away, and it’s hard to envision Vegas trading Crosby after the NFL Draft.
Ultimately, this will be a story to monitor as we get closer and closer to the biggest event of the offseason. If Crosby is fully recovered by the draft, then perhaps the Raiders trade him. However, if teams are worried about the long-term effects of his shoulder, the pass rusher will probably remain in the desert for one more season.
