Miami Dolphins Summon Former Big 12 Quarterback
Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has his heart set on an entirely new quarterback room heading into next season. As interviews for draft-eligible prospects are wrapping up, Miami called in Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels to headquarters. This is credited as a top 30 prospect interview.
He was also recently interviewed by the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Daniels spent 6 years at the University of Kansas, pledging his loyalty to the Jayhawks even through injuries and quarterback camp battles. He has started every game for the team since the beginning of 2024.
As a junior, Daniels hit a breakout stride, tossing 18 touchdowns to just 4 interceptions, and tallying another 7 scores on the ground. His dynamic ability as a runner with a rocket arm made him a feared opponent in the Big 12, but recurring back injuries kept him sidelined for multiple games in his first 4 seasons. His health has been a major factor for teams around the league, and seeing him start every game in 2025 was a win for the quarterback.
In 2025, Daniels was consistently playing well up until the final game of the season, where he struggled against the Utah Utes. Regardless of that performance, he was invited to the Hula Bowl and Shrine Bowl to further showcase his talents.
He performed well in those All-Star circuit games and then had another chance to improve his stock at the 2026 NFL Combine. He ended up running a 4.65-second 40-yard dash and measured in at 6 feet and 1 inch tall, weighing 219 pounds.
Why would the Miami Dolphins be interested in a solid quarterback who has been through his fair share of injuries? Daniels has a very high-level arm and shares similar athletic traits to their newest quarterback, Malik Willis.
The former Heisman hopeful possesses one of the strongest arms in the draft class and, when healthy, provides a dynamic dual-threat ability. He is above average at evading defenders in the pocket, which is an emphasis for this new offense, and Bobby Slowik calls plays that function best within the structure of a solid pocket.
Daniels has also seen a lot of different defenses, as 6 years in college football will throw a plethora of schemes and film at you.
Jalon Daniels is a projected late-round quarterback, like anywhere between pick 200 and undrafted. Miami isn’t in need of a high-round backup quarterback, as they currently roster Quinn Ewers and Cam Miller, but can add someone with a similar playstyle to their starting quarterback. Daniels is an intriguing potential pickup for any team in the 2026 NFL Draft.
