The medical tents will be busy this Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium, as both the Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals navigate heavily depleted rosters ahead of their Week 5 showdown. For two teams desperately needing a win, the final injury reports could dictate who leaves the field victorious.

The biggest storyline centers around Cincinnati’s elite aerial attack. Head coach Zac Taylor’s offense faces a severe depth crisis after both superstar wideouts suffered injuries during last week’s loss to Jacksonville. All-Pro wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase spent the week navigating the NFL’s strict concussion protocol. While he missed early sessions, Chase provided a major glimmer of hope by returning to a limited practice capacity on Thursday. If he remains symptom-free, he has a strong chance of clearing protocol by kickoff. His counterpart, Tee Higgins, faces a steeper uphill battle. Battling a painful adductor strain and a neck injury, Higgins remained sidelined from practice. With auxiliary option Andrei Iosivas already on injured reserve, the Bengals may have to rely heavily on secondary targets like Dohnte Meyers and Mitchell Tinsley to support quarterback Joe Burrow. Cincinnati’s defense is also dinged up, with safety Kyle Dugger missing practice due to a quad injury.

Meanwhile, head coach Jeff Hafley and the winless Miami Dolphins are fighting their own war of attrition. The Dolphins’ passing game will likely be short-handed, as rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas is in serious jeopardy of missing his third straight game while nursing a stubborn ankle injury. Compounding Miami’s offensive woes, tight end Justin Joly was a late addition to the injury report after entering concussion protocol. Running back Jaylen Wright was also listed as limited with a foot ailment.

It is not all bleak news for the home team, however. The Dolphins’ defense is expected to receive massive reinforcements. The team opened the practice windows for sophomore defensive tackle Kenneth Grant (toe) and cornerback Storm Duck (knee), both of whom could be activated from injured reserve to stabilize a young defensive unit.

With both teams hobbled and a Week 6 bye looming for both squads, Sunday’s contest will be a grueling test of depth and next-man-up execution.
