LUBBOCK - The Dallas Cowboys wrapped up minicamp last week, sending players on a month-long break before training camp in July.

Star edge rusher Micah Parsons wasn't a huge participant in minicamp during his contract negotiations, but was still present at The Star throughout the program to support his teammates.

He heads into the break as many fans nervously check their watches wondering when a contract extension will become official. For now, Micah has other things on his mind.

Parsons' first plan for the summer was to host his second annual "Lions Den" youth skills camp in Lubbock, Texas.

The two-time All-Pro received a warm welcome from the over 200 participants, ages 6-16.

The kids went through a variety of offensive, defensive, and agility drills, with Parsons spending over two hours playing catch and interacting with the campers. He also posed for group photos and signed autographs throughout.

After a long stretch of being all-time quarterback, Micah needed a breather and was seen getting some ice on his elbow as the camp went on.

And yes, he wore the beanie the whole time ... in sunny 95-degree West Texas heat.

Prior to last year, Parsons had never been to the Texas panhandle, which is home to Cowboys offensive lineman Terence Steele's alma mater Texas Tech University.

In a town like Lubbock, kids grow up playing sports without any professional teams closer than a five-hour drive. Micah found it important to host his camp in an area where kids don't often get the opportunity to go to a camp and meet their favorite players.

“It just really shows the impact that the Cowboys have and the impact I’ve put onto these kids,” Parsons said last year after he witnessed the amazing turn out.

The camp was made possibly in part because of Parsons' relationship with his vehicle dealer and close friend Randon Blacklock, who owns Premier Auto Group based in West Texas.

Blacklock spoke about the partnership with Parsons and the reason the camp was brought to Lubbock.

"Micah is a personal client of mind. I actually met Micah through some other Dallas Cowboys," Blacklock said. "When Micah wanted to put on a camp in West Texas, we were super eager to get a part of kind of partnership."

"Our group focuses on a few kids that may not get the chance to come to camp. So we really rally around the community, it's a big deal.

"I know it means a lot to the kids ... to be around Micah."

At the conclusion of the event, Parsons took the mic and offered some inspirational messages to the participants.

"Something about sacrifice ... You just got to compete in everything you do," Parsons said.

He added: "Thank you to the volunteers for helping this camp run smoothly. Thank you parents for your sacrifices you've made for your children to be here today. And thank you campers for sacrificing your time and giving me maximum effort. I appreciate you.

"I want you to always be great. Be great!"
