The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a new offensive coordinator in Josh Grizzard, while Liam Coen has moved on to become the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
While some are citing the latest coordinator change as a reason to lower expectations for Baker Mayfield and the offense in 2025, it’s worth noting that this isn’t something this yeam hasn’t gone through before.
Grizzard, who served as passing game coordinator under Coen last season, is already familiar with the system and the team’s players.
Mike Evans welcomes having “Grizz” as the top dog now.
“Coach Grizz, last year we talked a lot, but he didn’t talk as much in groups.”
Evans praised the staff’s approach to interacting with players on the practice field, in meetings, and in the locker room.
“He does a really great job of talking in front of everybody, and we didn’t get to see that last year, but he’s a really great coach, and I look forward to having a great season for him.”
Grizzard faces a significant challenge in at least matching last season’s elite offensive performance under Coen.
With new receivers Emeka Egbuka and Tez Johnson joining returning talent Chris Godwin and improving players like Bucky Irving and Jalen McMillan, the offense has plenty of firepower to wreak havoc on opposing defenses.
Before the offense can reach its full potential, though, they need to buy into Grizzard’s system and learn the new tweaks he’s bringing to the table. OTAs and minicamp are designed for that purpose, and reportedly, the team has gotten off to a strong start under Grizzard’s direction.
