Minnesota Vikings second Week 5 injury report shows some real improvement and a major clarification with star player
Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Vikings are now set to fly to Dublin on Thursday after finishing their second practice of the week. If they end up getting the win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, they will be the first team to win five games overseas in NFL history.

Ahead of their travel, the Vikings released their second injury report with one player added and another removed.

Observations

  • Darrisaw wasn't on the initial injury report because the Vikings don't deem him to have to deal with his knee anymore. However, this is a planned rest day, something that the Vikings will likely be doing the entirety of the season.
  • Metellus and Hargrave both took steps forward, which makes it likely that both play on Sunday.
  • McCarthy not practicing makes sense. They are going to take it easy with him.
  • Head coach Kevin O'Connell mentioned Van Ginkel's injury is more precautionary during Wednesday's press conference. "He came out of the game feeling pretty good, and then just has had some residual issues more tied to probably the neck. I would say he's out of the protocol. And cleared that through the medical process last week, and now we're just, you know, working through what his week's going to look like leading into Sunday."

Observations

  • The Steelers continued to give players rest days, which isn't surprising with how many players they have over the age of 30
  • Highsmith missing practice again is bad for his chances to play on Sunday. That would leave Nick Herbig as the other starting edge rusher opposite of TJ Watt
  • Porter playing will be huge for the Steelers when it comes to trying to stop Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. Friday's report will be huge for him.
