Myles Garrett's Trade Request Gets Telling Update

A standoff could be looming between defensive end Myles Garrett and the Cleveland Browns.

Early this month, Garrett requested to be shipped to another team, citing a "desire to win" a championship. The Browns missed the playoffs for the third time in four seasons after a woeful 3-14 record.

While Cleveland isn't keen on trading away Garrett, with coach Kevin Stefanski describing him as "part of the future," the four-time All-Pro First Team member is firm on not staying.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said he talked to different teams at the NFL combine in Indianapolis, and his impression was that the Browns won't change their stance.

"I believe Cleveland is very dug in and willing to wait him out and show resolve," wrote Fowler. "It's not just a 'no' to any prospective trades, but an emphatic one.

"The Browns haven't received many trade calls, in part because teams know it makes no sense to trade him."

The 29-year-old Garrett, a six-time Pro Bowler and former Defensive Player of the Year, would be a welcome asset to any team that would acquire him. He still has two years remaining on his record-breaking five-year, $125 million extension with the Browns.

Fowler, however, noted that other teams might still be willing to take a gamble despite Cleveland's stance and offer an enticing package for Garrett.

"Others around the league are skeptical, though, suggesting the Browns should capitalize on the multiple first-round picks available to them in order to move on," added Fowler.

Garrett tallied 47 combined tackles this season, including a career-best 40 solo tackles.

He has only played in the playoffs twice in his eight seasons in Cleveland.
