The New York Giants are planning to start rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart in their Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
The move comes after a disappointing 0-3 start to the season, led by veteran quarterback Russell Wilson . He passed for just 160 yards and two interceptions in Monday night’s 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, leading to head coach Brian Daboll making the move.

Quarterback play, which has been a struggle for the Giants since Eli Manning‘s last full season as a starter in 2018, has been a major factor in New York’s disappointing start to the season. The organization brought in the former All-Pro in Wilson this offseason as their starter, but he has thrown just three passing touchdowns to three interceptions through three games.
Wilson’s rough debut in the blue and red led to many Giants fans clamoring for the rookie to get an opportunity to start, and their wishes have now been answered. Dart was selected with the No. 25 overall pick in the First Round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss and entered the season as Wilson’s backup.
“Unfortunately, as well all know when a team is struggling, the position that gets changed is the quarterback,” Troy Aikman said on ESPN‘s ‘Monday Night Countdown‘. “Two weeks ago, we saw what Russell Wilson was able to do against Dallas. They very easily could have won that game. They failed to for a number of reasons, but then it wasn’t good enough the other night. As we’ve seen so many times, you draft a guy and that coach is under the gun.
“There’s so much pressure on Brian Daboll to win. He’s trying now to say, ‘What can I do save my job? What can I do to put some wins on the board that shows that we’re making progress?’ You can’t keep doing it the same way and have the same result. So there’s a lot of pressure on the organization and the people within the organization. The guy who’s gonna have to absorb that, in some ways unfortunately, Jaxson Dart.”
Dart excelled in the preseason, passing for 372 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. He will now get his first chance to shine on Sunday against the Chargers, who have started the season 3-0 with wins against all three AFC West teams.
