New York Jets Make Brutal David Bailey Announcement

The New York Jets have confirmed Sunday that rookie edge rusher David Bailey will miss their Week 8 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders at MetLife Stadium.

The team released its inactive list shortly before kickoff, officially ruling out the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft after a groin injury kept him off the practice field all week.

Head coach Aaron Glenn had already tempered expectations on Friday, calling Bailey doubtful and describing his status as a game-time decision.

The Jets further signaled the outcome on Saturday by elevating pass rusher Quinton Bell from the practice squad.

Bailey, who finished last week’s game against the Miami Dolphins before reporting the injury, had been one of the brighter spots in a defense otherwise searching for consistency.

Through seven games, he has posted 5.5 sacks, multiple tackles for loss and several forced fumbles, production that placed him among the early candidates for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

His absence leaves New York’s edge rotation thinner against a Raiders team that has struggled to run the ball but still features young talent in the backfield.

Joseph Ossai is also inactive with an ankle injury, meaning the Jets will lean on a mix of remaining veterans and depth pieces such as Will McDonald and Kingsley Enagbare to generate pressure.

The timing adds pressure on a unit already missing nose tackle T’Vondre Sweat, who was ruled out earlier in the week with a knee injury.

Running back Breece Hall is likewise sidelined for a fifth straight game with a quad issue.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Sunday morning that Braelon Allen is expected to start again; Allen has averaged nearly five yards per carry in Hall’s place and produced a pair of 100-yard games.

Hall’s continued absence has fueled quiet speculation around the November 10 trade deadline, though the Jets have not publicly indicated any change in his status beyond the current injury.

The Raiders enter the contest on a four-game skid and ranked near the bottom of the league in rushing offense.

New York, coming off a loss to Miami, will try to snap a two-game slide without two of its more productive young players on both sides of the ball.

With Bailey and Hall unavailable, the Jets’ ability to generate explosive plays on defense and sustain drives on offense will depend on how quickly the remaining depth can fill those roles in real time.

The inactive list also included wide receiver Tim Patrick, defensive back Nahshon Wright, and offensive linemen Kohl Levao and Max Mitchell.
