There's been a huge debate about whether or not turf fields are safe for NFL players. Unsurprisingly, that exact topic was brought up during the league's fall annual meeting on Tuesday.
Injuries are unfortunately a part of the NFL, but there was a lot of outrage when New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers suffered a torn ACL in Week 4. Fans assumed it was strictly due to the playing surface at MetLife Stadium.
Jeff Miller, the NFL Executive Vice President of Public Affairs and Policy, Player Health and Safety Initiatives, addressed the concerns surrounding MetLife Stadium this week.
According to Miller, the playing surface at MetLife Stadium is "playing really well and has for a while." Apparently, it's one of the safest in the NFL.
Whether fans like it or not, it doesn't sound like the NFL will shift towards natural grass for the 2026 season.
"What we’ve seen thus far is not a great difference between the natural and synthetic," NFL executive Dawn Aponte said. "There is a heightened focus on playing surfaces overall."
As you'd imagine, NFL fans have voiced their complaints on social media this afternoon.
Interestingly enough though, MetLife Stadium will install a grass field for the World Cup next year.
