After losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-28 in Week 5 , the NFL is adding insult to injury to Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Hollywood Brown.
Midway through the first quarter, Brown got into a spat with Jaguars safety Jourdan Lewis after the two got tangled up in a block. They exchanged some words, then Brown lost his cool and struck Lewis in his facemask.
For that, the league has fined Brown $12,172 for striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing under the category of unnecessary roughness. Brown was penalized 15 yards, but the Chiefs' offense was able to overcome it, scoring a touchdown five plays later.

This fine is about as obvious as it gets. The NFL isn't going to tolerate any form of fighting, and Brown was caught red-handed. Football is obviously an emotional game, but you can't cross the line and take swings at others players.
Brown got caught up in the moment, and likely instantly regretted his actions. All he can do now is put the incident behind him and try to remember not to let it happen again. Brown is otherwise having a very solid season, racking up 26 receptions (a team-high) for 257 yards and one touchdown.
Patrick Mahomes has established a good chemistry with Brown, who has become a safety blanket for the star quarterback. It's been encouraging to see after Brown missed most of the 2024 season with a shoulder injury. If he can remain healthy and productive, the Chiefs may want to keep him around beyond the 2025 season.
Brown signed a one-year contract with Kansas City during the offseason, which can be worth up to $11 million. Still just 28 years old, Brown will look to secure a long-term contract if possible. We still haven't seen what the Chiefs' passing attack could look like with Brown, Xavier Worthy, and Rashee Rice on the field at the same time, but we're getting close.
