NFL insider refutes Packers 'have all but moved on' from Aaron Rodgers

NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero believes the marriage between the Green Bay Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers could continue.

"If he wants to return to Green Bay and as long as he’s fully bought in, the Packers want him back," Pelissero said about Rodgers during an appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show," per Justin Tasch of the New York Post. "They had good conversations after the season." 

It was reported ahead of the weekend that the Packers "have all but moved on from" Rodgers, are "more confident than ever to start Jordan Love," and are "disgusted" with the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player.

Pelissero directly said that "nobody has told me (the Packers) are disgusted with (Rodgers)" following this past campaign. 

"I think that it is natural when you give someone an unprecedented type of contract, basically ripping up the remaining contract and giving him what amounts to a three-year, $150 million-plus deal like they did last year, you’re anticipating you’re gonna get somebody who’s fully bought in and is going to play at a really high level, and it didn’t work out that way in 2022," Pelissero remarked. 

Pelissero added that Rodgers dealt with a broken thumb on his throwing hand he first suffered on Oct. 9 and an injury to his ribs that initially sidelined him on Nov. 27. 

Rodgers acknowledged in January he probably will have to agree to contract adjustments if he wants to continue playing for any team through the 2023 season. 

The 39-year-old also insisted he could decide after his isolation period to retire and walk away from the remaining cash attached to his deal because he's already "made a ton" of money. 

It's believed the New York Jets prefer to trade for Rodgers over signing free agent Derek Carr even though New York's recent visit(s) with Carr reportedly "went really well." 

However, Carr may not be keen on mentoring young signal-caller Zach Wilson assuming Gang Green isn't yet ready to completely give up on the No. 2 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. 

In short, it seems there's a real possibility the Jets could head into springtime workouts without either Rodgers or Carr on their roster.
