Dallas Cowboys legend Jason Witten has reportedly landed a coaching job with one of the top programs in college football.
After retiring from the NFL in 2021, Witten was named the head football coach at Liberty Christian School. The 11-time Pro Bowler led the school to back-to-back state titles during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
There were some rumblings that Witten would be a coaching option for the Cowboys during the 2025 offseason but nothing ever materialized. That being said, it sounds like he's taking his football knowledge to the SEC.
According to On3's Pete Nakos and Sooner Scoop's Georgia Stoia, the Oklahoma Sooners are expected to name Witten their tight ends coach for the 2026 season. That would be a savvy hire considering he had over 13,000 receiving yards and 74 touchdowns during his 17-year run in the NFL.
It was revealed in December that Witten is one of the final 15 candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's class of 2026. In order for him to get inducted into Canton, he'll need to receive 80% of the vote from the selection committee.
Witten finished his career as the Cowboys' all-time leader in receptions (1,215) and receiving yards (12,977). The only tight end who racked up more yards than him is none other than Tony Gonzalez.
We'll see if Witten gets inducted into the Hall of Fame prior to the start of the 2026 college football season.
