NFL officials might have lied to Lions head coach Dan Campbell after Jared Goff's touchdown was reversed Sunday night

The plot has thickened, everyone. On Sunday night, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff and the offense worked up a trick play that saw Goff go out wide and catch a touchdown pass from running back David Montgomery. It worked, and the Lions scored. So everyone thought.

The officials then convened for what at the time felt like forever, and then a flag was thrown, an illegal formation was called, and the touchdown was nullified. That's where everything gets crazy, and maybe some lies were told.

Did Craig Wrolstad and his team take their cues from New York on Jared Goff's touchdown or not?

On 97.1 The Ticket on Wednesday morning, Lions head coach Dan Campbell told Costa and Jansen that after the play was nullified, Wrolstad told Campbell that the decision came from New York. He not only said on Wednesday, but he also said that on Tuesday in his early week presser.

Ok, that directly contradicts what Wrolstad said after the game. Here's an excerpt from the pool report after the game, where Chiefs Digest writer Matt Derrick spoke with Wrolstad.

"Question: What kind of help or assistance, if any, did you have from the replay assistant in Kansas City or from New York?

Wrolstad: We did not have any assistance from Kansas City or New York.

Question: So that was just a discussion amongst the crew itself?

Wrolstad: “That’s right.”

So what is going on here? Did it come from New York or not? If it didn't, why would you lie to the coach? If it didn't, why would you lie to the pool reporter? What is happening here, and when will the NFL publicly address what is happening here?

You hate to fall into the conspiracy world and all that, but it looks really bad for Wrolstad and his team that on the night when the Chiefs walked out with no penalties, there's some confusion as to how this touchdown got nullified. I mean, this is where football fans get the idea that the league is rigged. It doesn't just come from sour grapes.

This is likely to be a controversy for sure. We'll see if the league responds at any point, but this one might not just go away. What really happened on Sunday Night?
