All 32 NFL teams will vote Wednesday on whether or not the tush push should be banned for the 2025 season.
The Philadelphia Eagles are truly the only team that has mastered this controversial quarterback sneak. While it helps that Jordan Mailata, Lane Johnson and the rest of their offensive line is incredibly skilled, we also can't overlook the fact that Jalen Hurts can squat an absurd amount of weight. That has to help him when he's driving his body against defenders.
Back in February, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said it'd be "unfair" for the NFL to ban the tush push.
"I almost feel a little insulted because we work so hard at that play," Sirianni said. "The amount of things that we’ve looked into how to coach that play, the fundamentals. There’s 1000 plays out there, but it comes down to how you teach the fundamentals and how the players go through the fundamentals. ... The fact that it’s a successful play for the Eagles and people want to take that away, I think is a little unfair."
Despite Sirianni's best efforts to keep this play alive, it sounds like the tush push is on its way out.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the NFL is expected to ban the tush push this Wednesday.
"Hours away from the owners’ vote surrounding the future of the tush push, I’m told both the league’s competition and players’ health and safety committees have voted to ban the play," Russini said. "Despite the Eagles’ best efforts, the tush push is likely on its way out, sources say."
It's unclear how this will impact the Eagles, especially since they have more than enough talent to keep the chains moving in short-yardage situations.
All we know for certain is that Philadelphia fans aren't happy with this decision.
