NFL players trending in the wrong direction early in 2016

After a huge second half of 2015, Anderson has struggled to get going early this year. He's been a workhorse in the Denver backfield, with 73 carries in four games, but is only averaging 3.5 yards per carry.

Ansah has missed the last two games to injury, and it's no coincidence that Detroit has struggled. He had just two tackles in the two games he did play after recording 14.5 sacks last season.

The Bears went into the season with Barth instead of Robbie Gould, much to the dismay of Bears fans. The move isn't paying off for Chicago, as Barth is just 2-for-4 on field goals.

Beckham Jr.'s numbers have taken a hit this year, as has his reputation as a fiery player. He has only 22 receptions and has yet to score through four games.

Bowman missed all of 2014 with a knee injury, and he's finished for 2016 only four games into his year due to a torn Achilles. At age 28, he's far from the player he was early in his career.

Fitzpatrick held out for most of the offseason, and it might be impacting his play. Through four games, he's already thrown 10 picks and fumbled four times.

Forsett was cut just before the season before being re-signed, and he found himself on the bench in Week 4. He 's averaged only 3.2 yards per carry, and the Ravens are set to release him again.

Forte joined the Jets this season and has looked ineffective thus far. Despite 81 carries in four games, he's averaged only 3.6 yards per carry.

Gabbert won the starting job over Colin Kaepernick in training camp, but it's not surprising that there's been talk of switching quarterbacks. He's completed only 58 percent of his passes for 728 yards through four games.

Goff was the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, taken over Carson Wentz. While Wentz has been great for the Eagles, Goff has yet to find the field and looked lost during the exhibition season.

Gronkowski missed the first two games of the year with a hamstring issue and has only one reception over the two games he has played. It's unclear if the decline is Gronkowski or the absence of Tom Brady.

The all-world running back of the Rams has had trouble finding holes in eight-man boxes early in the year. Gurley has averaged only 2.6 yards per carry, but the Rams have still started the season 3-1.

The Indy defense has been torched early in the year, and Jackson's tackles are way down through four games. He has 21 tackles after recording 150 last season.

Jackson slowed last season, and the trend continues early this year. He has only 12 receptions through four games.

Despite the presence of a strong running game after the addition of DeMarco Murray, Mariota has struggled in his sophomore season. He has five picks in four games with a sub-59 percent completion percentage.

The Texans signed Miller to give their running game a jolt, but he's struggled to find holes. Miller has 93 carries through four games but has averaged only 3.8 yards per attempt with no scores.

Murray has averaged a solid 4.3 yards per carry but seems to be losing his hold of the starting running back job in Oakland. He's averaged only 10 carries per game.

Palmer looked bad late last season, and his poor play has continued early this year. He's thrown five picks and fumbled four times through four games, and could be sidelined in Week 5 due to a concussion.

After having a surprise third season with 11 sacks, Short has regressed this year with only one sack in four games. The Carolina defense has struggled early in the year.

Sims averaged 4.9 yards per carry as a third-down back for Tampa Bay last season. He's seen more playing time early this year with Doug Martin sidelined but has averaged only 2.8 yards per carry.

Despite making only 33 receptions in his first season with San Francisco, there was hope Smith would rebound with the change to Chip Kelly's offense. That hasn't been the case, as he has only nine receptions in four games.

The Dolphins hired offensive mastermind Adam Gase in part to help develop Tannehill, but the early returns aren't great. Tannehill has thrown five interceptions and fumbled four times in four games.

The Lions figured Tate would step up with the loss of Calvin Johnson, but he's actually regressed. Through four games, he has only 14 receptions, averaging a pitiful 6.8 yards per catch.

Walsh hasn't looked right since missing a chip shot field goal that would have advanced Minnesota in the playoffs last season. He's already missed three field goals in four games this year.

Watkins had offseason foot surgery and looked hobbled early in the year before going on the IR. It now appears he's headed for season-ending surgery.
