Tom Brady's potential conflicts of interest are drawing renewed scrutiny after Monday night.

ESPN showed Brady, a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, inside the team's coaching box during a Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Sideline reporter Peter Schrager relayed that offensive coordinator Chip Kelly said he talks through game film with the retired quarterback two to three times a week.

It's a dicey situation, as Brady also broadcasts NFL games as a color commentator for FOX. The league now allows Brady to attend FOX production meetings, so critics worry that the seven-time Super Bowl champion can collect sensitive information to benefit the Raiders.

Reporters question Brady's access

It's not just fans and pundits calling out the seemingly glaring dilemma. NFL insider James Palmer noted the absurdity of Brady's situation.

"Tom Brady meets with Chip Kelly 2-3 times a week to go over film and go through the game plan," Palmer wrote. "And every weekend Brady is calling a game for Fox, gathering as much information as possible from players and coaches from both teams to be at his best in the broadcast booth. Got it."

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer argued that the conflicts span beyond Brady gaining intel on the opposition's schemes and strategies. The reporter responded to Palmer's post by suggesting that the Raiders owner could advantageously deploy his FOX role during the offseason.

"People think of just the strategic stuff, but it goes deeper than that," Breer wrote. "You could also gather pertinent detail on players in production meetings to inform free-agent signings and trades. Or figure out who the key [assistant] coaches are and try to poach them. Lots of layers to this."

That became a prominent topic during Brady's first postseason in the booth. The Raiders commenced a search to replace head coach Antonio Pierce as Brady worked a game featuring one of the top candidates, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

Any extra access Brady got to Johnson beyond the formal interview process didn't yield a deal, as Johnson instead joined the Chicago Bears. That creates another problem with Brady set to encounter Johnson in both roles.

ESPN's Field Yates noted that Brady is scheduled to call a Week 3 game between the Bears and Dallas Cowboys this Sunday. The Raiders play the Bears the following week.
