NFL 'SNF' Week 2: Best bets and preview for Patriots vs. Dolphins

We're back for another edition of "Sunday Night Football," and we've got another divisional showdown between the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins in Week 2. Let's hope this matchup is more entertaining than the 40-0 drubbing the Dallas Cowboys gave the New York Giants in Week 1, although we weren't complaining with a Cowboys -3.5 ticket in hand.

So, how do we see "SNF" playing out in Week 2?

New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins betting breakdown

Betting odds: Dolphins -3, over/under 46.5, Dolphins -155 moneyline | Patriots +130 moneyline

The Dolphins travel up north this Sunday night for a primetime date against the Patriots in Week 2, as both teams will look to get a leg up in the AFC East race. Miami is coming off a dominant offensive performance in Week 1 which it averaged a league-best 8.2 yards per play, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa torched the Los Angeles Chargers secondary for 466 passing yards and three touchdowns.

The area of concern for the Dolphins was a rush defense that allowed LA to run for 233 yards on 40 attempts (5.8 yards per carry). That's not great news with Rhamondre Stevenson on deck.

The Patriots outgained the Philadelphia Eagles, 382-251, in Week 1, but a few sloppy turnovers early put them in a 16-0 hole they couldn't climb out of. Bill Belichick's defense held the Eagles to just 170 passing yards and 3.8 yards per carry, which was an encouraging start for what should be one of the best units in the AFC this year.

An electrifying offense will butt heads with a stout defense in Week 2, and we know exactly how to attack the matchup.

'Sunday Night Football' best bets

First half under 23.5 (-120 FanDuel)

It might seem scary to click submit on a Dolphins under after watching their offense last week, but stick with us here.

Belichick won't be punked by Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill like Brandon Staley's staff was in Week 1. New England's defense has held Miami to 22 points or less in six of their last eight meetings. Over that span, these two teams have combined to average 15.5 points in the first half, and seven of the last eight first half totals between the Dolphins and Pats have gone under 23.5.

Expect the Patriots to come out with a run-first approach to keep Tagovailoa off the field, and there will be an emphasis on keeping these speedy receivers in front of them on defense.

Tyreek Hill under 84.5 receiving yards (-115 DraftKings)

Hill was unstoppable against the Chargers, finishing with 215 yards and two touchdowns on 11 catches. That performance hiked up his receiving prop to 84.5 this week, and we're grabbing the under at an inflated price.

In two games against the Patriots last season, Hill averaged only 6.0 catches and 74.5 receiving yards per game. Belichick is the best in the business at taking away a team's favorite weapon, and he knows the Pats don't stand a chance unless Hill is kept in check.
