NFL Team Signing Teddy Bridgewater Amid Injury Concerns

Late last year former Pro Bowl quarterback Teddy Bridgewater came out of coaching high school football and was nearly a part of a Super Bowl team. This time, he's getting an early start on coming back.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Bridgewater is set to sign a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will replace injured Bucs QB Michael Pratt on the active roster for the time being.

"Veteran QB Teddy Bridgewater is visiting Tampa today, and is expected to sign with the Buccaneers, per sources. The Buccaneers will be Bridgewater’s 8th NFL team, and his third NFC South team to go along with the Saints and Panthers," Schefter wrote.

"Tampa needed another quarterback because Buccaneers QB Michael Pratt has been dealing with a back injury. Plus, Bridgewater always has been widely respected and a player others want on their roster. Now Tampa adds QB help and another leader."

From high school to the NFL

Bridgewater has some free time on his hands for the foreseeable future. He was recently suspended from his position as head coach at Miami Northwestern high school for giving "impermissible benefits to his players." Those benefits largely consisted of basis necessities such as rideshares, meals and recovery services - all of which he provided on his own dime.

It's probably more unfortunate for the school than for Bridgewater. Last year, in his first year as the coach, the team went 12-2 and won FHSAA Class 3A National Championship.

Retired, unretired, retired, unretired again

Teddy Bridgewater officially announced his retirement in February 2024. But after his success with Miami Northwestern, he came out of retirement to sign a deal with the Detroit Lions right before the team's playoff run began.

Bridgewater didn't play in the regular season, but got his shot in the playoffs when Jared Goff went down with an injury. He was in the game for just one drive, completing one pass for three yards before Goff came back.

But for a brief moment, Bridgewater had a chance to tell one of the greatest comeback stories in NFL history.

Now he'll get a chance to do it again in Buccaneers training camp.
