New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo began his second year in the NFL with the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. He appeared in only eight games last season, as he suffered a dislocated right ankle and a right fibula fracture..

Despite not playing since October of last year, Skattebo started off the new season strong. He rushed for 11 yards and the opening touchdown of the game on the Giants’ first offensive possession.

This ignited Skattebo and the New York fans in attendance at MetLife Stadium. However, on the second drive, the fans were amped up for a different reason.

On third down, with the ball on their own 44 yard line, the Giants ran the ball with Skattebo, but he was tackled for no gain. As he got up, Skattebo got in the face of the referee complaining that a Cowboys defender yanked his face mask.

When the replay was shown, it was clear that defensive tackle Quinnen Williams pulled Skattebo’s face mask, but a penalty flag was not thrown. Skattebo’s nose was even bloody after the play.

“Cam Skattebo upset that refs missed a face mask there. Costs Giants a punt,” said New York Daily News Sports reporter Pat Leonard.

Although there wasn’t a flag thrown by the referees, the NFL still has the ability to give out a later punishment to Williams yanking Skattebo’s face mask.

According to the league’s website, players can be fined $11,941 for the first offense of a face mask and $17,911 for their second offense.

The Giants punted after the no-call, and the Cowboys scored a touchdown on the ensuing possession to even the game at 7-7.
