The Chicago Bears spent months waiting to fire Matt Nagy.
His demise was no secret and the franchise even decided to fire GM Ryan Pace as well.
That begins a new era of Bears football and they finally have their new head coach in former Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.
Former Colts’ defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus is being hired as the head coach of the Chicago Bears, per sources.

This marks a change in philosophy as the Bears have decided to go away from targeting a “quarterback guru” and instead focused on finding the best leader for their team.
The hiring of Eberflus also shuts down wild rumors of the team maybe targeting Ryan Day or Jim Harbaugh to coach Justin Fields.
Eberflus is in and NFL fans are reacting to the news on social media.
I don't wanna rush the thought on the Bears hiring Eberflus but bringing it Colts identity to that team can help them in the long run

A quick look at the overall reaction shows a lack of excitement over the hire.
That is to be expected, as Eberflus’ name does not carry a ton of star power.
I am incredibly meh on the Eberflus hiring. He is going to have to hire an EXCELLENT offensive coordinator to generate any kind of excitement, but for now it’s meh and I fully expect to be back on this carousel in four years.

As per usually I’ll remain cautiously optimistic about the Eberflus hire until the Bears give me a reason to really like or dislike the move… time to wait and see.

Feeling really meh about Matt eberflus. Seems like a good defensive mind but the bears need someone who can develop fields. Even if they find an OC that can do that, he’s going to get poached for a head coach job at some point

Bears fans in particular have a right to be cautiously optimistic about the news.
They were told Nagy was going to guide Mitchell Trubisky and the Bears to greatness.
That did not exactly go as planned.
One positive about Eberflus hire is that he is a defensive head coach so we don't have to worry about the head coach wanting to call offensive plays. Whoever is the OC will have full control in play calling #Bears

How do @ChicagoBears fire Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy but then turn around and hire RYAN Poles and MATT Eberflus?? Bears stuck in limbo??
— Talon Farmer (@TalonFarmerSwag) January 27, 2022
General thought about the #Bears GM/HC hires.
I am happy. Really like the hiring of GM Ryan Poles. Matt Eberflus was in my top 5 of HCs but as a whole, I wasn’t overly enthralled with this HC group.
Big question now is coaching staff, especially the offensive staff.
— Aaron Leming (@AaronLemingNFL) January 27, 2022
The focus now turns back toward developing Fields.
Eberflus needs to bring in a talented offensive staff to ensure this isn’t a repeat of the Trubisky situation.
I pray that the bears organization doesn't ruin justin fields

Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, Mac Jones, Justin Fields. What do all these guys have in common? Defensive head coach
— Donny Brooks (@R_yanT_abisz) January 27, 2022
Also why am I seeing Matt Eberflus slander? He’ll get a good OC for Justin Fields. Chill.
— Jared Paul Joseph (@JaredPJoseph) January 27, 2022
The thing fans must remember is that Eberflus himself wants to get the best staff possible so he can be the head coach of the team for a very long time.
He also has an easy pitch because coaches will get to work with a dynamic talent in Fields.
Who he hires to lead his offense in 2022 will determine the trajectory of both his job and the franchise.
