NY Jets earn surprising love in official NFL playoff predictions

Expectations for the New York Jets are lower than they have been in quite some time.

According to recent odds from ESPN Bet (as of August 28), the Jets are tied for the third-worst odds to win the Super Bowl (200-1) and the second-worst odds to win their division (18-1). Their over-under is 5.5 wins, tied for third-worst.

Yet, the folks at NFL.com are slightly more bullish on the Jets’ outlook. They may even be a little more optimistic than some Jets fans.

In their recent predictions for the 2025 NFL season, four of 29 writers for the league’s official website predicted that New York will earn the AFC’s seventh seed: Jack Andrade, Brooke Cerosimo, Grant Gordon, and Gregg Rosenthal. Consider them your allies for the 2025 season, Jets fans.

While the Jets have the third-worst odds to win the AFC (75-1), they ranked noticeably higher among their conference peers in NFL.com’s predictions.

Per ESPN Bet’s odds, only Tennessee and Cleveland have worse odds to win the conference than the Jets, but in NFL.com’s predictions, the Jets earned more votes to make the playoffs than Tennessee, Cleveland, Miami, and Indianapolis. The latter three teams earned no votes, whereas the Jets earned four. Tennessee earned one vote.

So, yes: I’m telling you there’s a chance.

At least, the official website of the shield thinks so. After all, the commissioner is a former Jets employee, so he could have put these predictions in motion to help himself feel better about his old squad.

Or, maybe the Jets are slightly less of a longshot to make the playoffs than some think.
