Object thrown onto field during NFL Week 1

The fad of throwing sex toys onto playing surfaces has extended into the NFL’s regular season.

A now-infamous green dildo found its way onto the field at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, Oh. during Sunday’s Week 1 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns. The incident took place during the second quarter, and the object was calmly tossed off the field by one of the officials.

The toss did not disrupt play in any way, and it was barely even noticeable. That was largely how it went when someone tried the same move in a preseason game in Tennessee.

The whole sex toy chaos started in the WNBA, where several have been thrown during games. It is a lot more obvious when it happens in that league, and it has actually caused play to be halted there. While many are amused by the trend, a good number of people around the WNBA were not.

This is not without precedent around the NFL, at least. Buffalo Bills fans infamously threw pink dildos at Tom Brady multiple times during the latter half of his tenure with the New England Patriots.
