Offensive line remains a question mark for Jets

The Jets invested heavily in their offensive line, but it remains to be seen whether that investment will pay off, as Ralph Vacchiano of SNY writes. The Jets bypassed this year’s top free agent offensive linemen, instead signing next-tier blockers such as tackle George Fant and guards Alex Lewis and Greg Van Roten. Center Connor McGovern was a bit splashier, and there’s lots of hype around first-round pick Mekhi Becton, but chemistry is key to an offensive line. If the Jets’ unit can’t jell, Gang Green won’t have much protection to offer Sam Darnold in 2020.

• There’s no real reason to panic over Jamal Adams‘ “absence” from the Jets’ virtual offseason program, Vacchiano opines. Instead, he says to keep an eye on the safety when training camp starts. If Adams stays home, or shows up and causes a stir, that will be the time for Jets fans to get nervous. Still, it’s clear that Adams is not happy with GM Joe Douglas or the rest of the Jets’ front office. Last week, Adams said that the Jets promised him a contract offer in January – and he’s yet to receive it.
• Christopher Johnson has been holding down the fort while his brother, Jets owner Woody Johnson, tends to his role as the United States’ ambassador to the United Kingdom. Even if Woody returns back to the Jets next year, Brian Costello of the New York Post expects Christopher to maintain a significant role in the organization. It remains to be seen how they would divvy up the duties, but Christopher is likely to stay involved near the top of the ladder.
• Former Jets second-round pick Christian Hackenberg didn’t pan out in the NFL, but he’s hoping to have better luck in his new career. The ex-quarterback says he’s switching to baseball and will try to make it as a pitcher.
