Brady Christensen‘s 2025 season came to an abrupt end thanks to an Achilles tear. The veteran offensive lineman has remained on the market well into free agency due to the injury, but that could soon change.
Christensen informed Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer that he received full medical clearance yesterday. That is an encouraging final development in his recovery process. It should help the five-year Panthers blocker line up his next deal, although it may not come with Carolina.
“I’m always looking for the best opportunity, not only for me, but for my family as well,” Christensen said. “In the NFL, especially on the O-Line, you don’t have a long career, so you’re always looking for that best opportunity. The next opportunity to get back on the field, have good games, have good film, so you can keep going from there.”
During his time in the NFL, Christensen has seen time at all five offensive line positions. The former third-rounder’s most common spot has been left guard, although he split time between center and left tackle in 2024. Last season, Christensen worked exclusively at right guard prior to his most recent injury. Missed time was also a concern in 2023, as he was limited to just one game that year.
A tepid market could very well exist in this case as a result, although Christensen said his agent have been in contact with multiple teams since the onset of free agency. One of those is the Panthers, a team which faced plenty of uncertainty at the left tackle spot entering the offseason. Rasheed Walker was signed before the selection of Monroe Freeling in the first round of the draft. They will compete for the starting gig on the blindside until Ikem Ekwonu completes his own lengthy rehab process.
Carolina also saw Cade Mays and Austin Corbett depart in free agency. While Luke Fortner was added this spring, the team could use a familiar option along the interior of the offensive line in the form of Christensen. Ahead of his age-30 season, the BYU product is open to another Panthers contract (and to spending training camp working at any O-line position). It will be interesting to see if one can be finalized in the near future or if Christensen will land elsewhere this summer.
