Green Bay Packers linebacker Quay Walker abruptly exited the practice field on Thursday ahead of the session starting, due to a calf issue. Good news for concerned fans came today, as the fourth-year linebacker should be back in pads for Friday practice. Head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters that Walker did not feel quite right, leading to his DNP in yesterday’s session as a precautionary measure.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Quay Walker was “feeling a little something” with his calf before practice yesterday so “we were just being cautious with him.”

There no longer appears to be a need for caution, a positive sign for the Packers’ chances of having Walker, a critical piece in the middle of the defense, on the field against the Panthers on Sunday.
Walker is one of several Georgia Bulldogs to line up on Green Bay’s defense, joining Devonte Wyatt, Javon Bullard, Nazir Stackhouse, and Warren Brinson. (Tight end John FitzPatrick is also a Georgia alum.)
Since the Packers drafted him 22nd overall in 2022, Walker has been a consistent producer in the teeth of the defense. Each season he has racked up over 100 tackles despite missing three games in 2023 and four last season. Through seven contests in 2025, he already has 64, well on his way to a career high if he can stay healthy.
Walker has already logged 467 snaps this year, 20th among qualified linebackers per Pro Football Focus. He has not graded out exceptionally well, earning a 60.5 overall grade good for 41st out of 80 ranked LBs. His involvement on the defense cannot be overstated, however, as he swallows up ball carriers like a tree grinder.

Walker has not missed a game this season. The Packers would be glad to have him on the field versus Carolina, whose rush attack led by Rico Dowdle has been surprising productive.
Walker is a weapon against the pass as well, tying a career-high already with five quarterback hits. Has also recorded 1.5 sacks and four passes defensed.
