Packers Get Good News On Josh Jacobs' Court Date

Green Bay Packers star running back Josh Jacobs has been facing serious charges of battery and criminal damage stemming from an incident in May. But it appears that Jacobs has managed to get his lawyer to move things along even quicker than expected.

According to WLUK, Jacobs’ initial court appearance has been moved up to September 10 – three days before the Packers’ season opener – from November 17, which would have been mid-season and amid Green Bay’s bye week. Since they are misdemeanor charges, Jacobs does not have to physically show up in court and has authorized his attorney to appear in-person on his behalf.

Jacobs is currently on paid leave with the Packers via the NFL Commissioner’s Exempt List.

Getting things done quickly.

It behooves Jacobs to resolve his legal matter as quickly as possible. The sooner he can get the case over and done with, the sooner the NFL can wrap up its investigation into potential personal conduct violations and issue its punishment.

Once that’s all taken care of, any games that Jacobs misses while on the Exempt List can be appealed to count towards time served on a potential punishment.

Of course, depending on what further details emerge from the case, that may not work to Jacobs’ favor anyway. The details we do have are pretty bad.

The complaint in the police report alleges that Jacobs threw his girlfriend to the ground and caused her to suffer a head injury. He allegedly took her phone away from her while she was on the ground and may have even made threats.

Jacobs was arrested three days after the May 23 incident took place and was released from custody a day later.
