The Packers opened the 2025 season with one of the most impressive victories across the NFL.
By throttling the NFC North rival Detroit Lions, Green Bay looked every bit like the team to beat within the division, on the way to a 27-13 blowout that was never quite competitive.
Thursday night, the Packers have the opportunity to take another step towards establishing themselves as a legitimate Super Bowl threat in the NFC and perhaps into the driver’s seat in the race for homefield advantage.
Ahead of Week 2, the Packers look like one of the most dominant teams in the NFL.
According to Pro Football Focus, the Packers are one of the few teams in the league with a top-10 in EPA (Expected Points Added) both on offense, and on defense.
The metric measures a team’s dominance and expected production on a play-by-play basis.
“The Packers looked every bit like a team projected to take the next step in 2025,” Thomas Valentine writes for PFF, listing Green Bay No. 3 in this week’s power rankings . “In their 27-13 win against the Lions. The offense, led by Jordan Love, was explosive, while the defense locked up one of the NFL’s best attacks. It’s only Week 1, but Green Bay is fielding top-10 units in EPA per play on offense and defense.”
Only the Eagles rank ahead of the Packers in Pro Football Focus’ power rankings, after the season opener, giving Green Bay an 8% chance of winning the Super Bowl this season.
If the Packers knock off the Commanders, those odds could significantly increase.
