Matthew Golden might not be packing the stat sheet through the first three games of the 2025 season, but the Packers’ first-round rookie wide receiver is beginning to make an impact on Green Bay’s passing game.
Through his first three games, Golden has been targeted just eight times by quarterback Jordan Love, but the Packers’ rookie has pulled down six receptions for 68 yards.
As Green Bay continues to navigating injuries that have forced Love’s receiving corps to evolve, there’s a chance that Golden could see an uptick both in routes run, and targets beginning on Sunday night in Dallas.
According to Pro Football Focus, Golden enters Week 4 as the fifth-highest graded rookie receiver in the league.
“Golden was targeted a season-high four times against the Browns this week,” Dalton Wasserman writes of Golden, for PFF. “His most explosive play came on a perfectly thrown go route from Jordan Love with the Packers backed up near their own endzone. With fellow wide receiver Jayden Reed out for the foreseeable future, expect Golden to get expanded opportunities to create more explosive plays.”
Sunday against the Browns, PFF awarded Golden a 62.8 overall grade, the highest of his season, to date.
Golden, Love and the Packers face a favorable matchup against a Cowboys secondary that has been exploited by Giants quarterback Russell Wilson and the Bears’ Caleb Williams each of the past two weeks, so a breakout for the former University of Texas standout could be coming.
