Jayden Daniels is among the brightest young stars across the NFL, and the kind of quarterback capable of giving the Packers’ defense fits in Green Bay’s Week 2 matchup against the Washington Commanders.
Daniels, who set the record for rushing yards by a rookie quarterback last season, kicked off his 2025 campaign against the New York Giants by rushing for 68 yards in addition to passing for 233 yards, in a surgical performance against the Commanders’ NFC East rivals.
A year removed from guiding the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game, Daniels and Washington represent a litmus test for Jordan Love, Micah Parsons, and the Packers in Week 2 of the season.
Micah Parsons was a dominant force against the Lions, sacking Jared Goff once and forcing an incompletion and an Evan Williams interception on throws disrupted by his pressure.
Daniels’ mobility creates a whole other challenge for the Packers’ defense, but Parsons is ready.
“He’s just one of them guys like no matter what, you just try to contain the whole time,” Parsons told reporters. “He’ll go through the A gaps and B gaps, get outside of you. It’s hard, you know what I mean? I think you gotta limit the explosives, make ’em earn it.”
As the Packers’ official website points out, while Daniels rushed for 105 yards in two games against the Cowboys last season, Parsons still posted 4.5 sacks in those contests. Green Bay would certainly sign up for that level of production, especially if it meant a win on the scoreboard.
“We’re gonna give up some 5-yard runs or he’s gonna get loose once or twice, but the thing is to make sure it’s not consecutive.”
