Packers Reportedly Make Decision On Trading Head Coach Matt LaFleur

The Green Bay Packers are inching closer to ending all the drama surrounding head coach Matt LaFleur.

Since taking over the franchise in 2019, LaFleur has owned a 76-40-1 record in the regular season. Despite reaching the playoffs six times in the past seven years, he hasn't made it to the Super Bowl. His most embarrassing playoff performance came last Saturday against the Chicago Bears. Although his team had a 21-3 lead at halftime, his defense was incapable of slowing down Caleb Williams in the fourth quarter.

After the Packers fell short to the Bears on Wild Card weekend, fans assumed LaFleur would be on the hot seat. That wasn't a huge stretch considering there's only one year left on his current contract.

Earlier this week, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that LaFleur's future with the Packers is up in the air. Naturally, fans started wondering if he'll be traded to a team with a coaching vacancy this offseason.

On Saturday, however, Schefter said the Packers are expected to sign LaFleur to an extension.

"The Packers continue talking with both LaFleur and Gutekunst this weekend, working toward a positive resolution that is the more likely outcome, according to sources," Schefter wrote. "Sources told ESPN that they would be surprised if the Packers don't complete extensions with both LaFleur and Gutekunst."

Changes are coming for Green Bay.

Even if the Packers sign LaFleur to an extension, there's a good chance his coaching staff will look different next season. For starters, defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is a serious contender to become the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins. If he gets the job, he'll probably take a few assistant coaches with him.

Green Bay's front office will also go through some changes this offseason. The Packers have already lost their vice president of player personnel, Jon-Eric Sullivan. He has agreed to become Miami's general manager.

It'll be fascinating to see how the Packers handle this offseason.
